The LM Nason memorial match took place on August 12th, 2023 at the Batouche range. The match consisted of one 2+10 target at 600m and two at 900m. This is a match dedicated to the memory of Lou Nason. Below is a brief summary of the speech given by the match director Kim Justason:
Lou had a gunsmith shop in his house in St. George where he did repairs for people and sighted in their guns. He and his friend Gene Wilson used to practice 2 or 3 times per week at Utopia rifle range. His wife, Lucille was in the Reserve and she met Lou at a rifle match in Sussex in 1953. Lou belonged to the NB Rifle Association. They married in Nov 1953. It was love at first shot! In 1959 Lou went to Ottawa to compete at the National rifle match while his wife gave birth to a baby girl! He was a great outdoorsman - hunted and fished. Pictures provided by Laura Kaderly. The all comers match was held on 2023-10-07 at the St. Antoine range. This is the last scheduled match of the year. The match director was Ken Kyle who did a great job running the match as usual. Thanks to James Lutes who was the RO on the second relay while Ken shot. While attendance was lower than average due to the Thanksgiving weekend and hunting season those who attended appreciated the near perfect conditions for shooting. The visibility and wind conditions both contributed to some very good scores. Ken Kyle, Tony Pham and Malcolm McAvoy were all able to shoot a clean match. Given that Tony only started shooting TR earlier this year that's quite the feat!
Congratulations are in order for local competitors Gord Holloway (RNBRA President) and Adam MacDonald (Fullbore Chair) for their impressive performance at the 2023 GBFCA European F-Class Championship in September.
The gentleman also competed in two team events, recruiting TR shooters Oliver Spencer (GB) and Kevin Hill (GB) as well as Laura Kaderly (NB) and Robert Smith (GB) as scorekeepers. The first team event was 2 matches at 1000 yards and Team Canada finished 2nd, one V-bull behind first. The second team event was one match at 900 and one at 1000. Again, Team Canada finished second, only two points behind Team Pakistan. For full results, visit the GBFCA website or the Euros' facebook page where you can read Richie Jones' 17-page match report!
This match was originally going to take place on September 16th but was cancelled. The any rifle/any sight match on September 23rd was converted to the Coleman Stapleford match and medals were given out to first place from each division. The match format was altered and consisted of 3 x 10+2 targets at 900m. Congratulations to Harrison Brown and Jay Helliwell for taking the medals in their respective classes.
This a three target 15+2 round match shot at 900m. You must shoot a 155gn or lighter projectile in .308 or a 85.5gn or lighter in .223. The added difficulty in using a lighter bullet with a lower ballistic coefficient makes this match more challenging than most. Congratulations to the respective winners in each discipline.
The mini palma team match was shot after the Atlantic championships in Bull Meadow, Nova Scotia. This was a Canada vs USA team match where the shooters were selected by their performance at the Atlantics. The match included both shooters from TR and FTR disciplines. Congratulations to the Canadian Team who took home the win. The pictures, taken by Laura Kaderly, from this event and the Atlantic Championships are linked at the bottom of the post. The 2023 Atlantic Championships took place between September 1st and 3rd. There were 4 individual matches which comprise the championship: The Bluenose, Herring Choker, Lady Slipper and Down East. Various distances from 300m to 800m were shot to achieve a final grand aggregate which decided the overall winners for each discipline. Congratulations to Adam MacDonald(FTR) and Braden Colman-Sadd(TR) who both took home first place in their respective divisions. Thanks to Laura Kaderly for taking lots of great photos. You can find them linked at the bottom of the post.
