2020 NB Annual Prize Meet Sept. 26-27

The 2020 NB APM was held at Batouche Range at 5 CDSB Gagetown on Saturday September 26 and Sunday September 27. This was our first (and probably only) large match held at Batouche this year and it did not disappoint.

16 competitors came from NB, PEI and NS to shoot 8 matches, including the Governor General matches and the Prince of Wales (the oldest continuously-awarded trophy in Canada).

On Saturday, competitors shot the John Gibson Memorial and the T. Eric Snow (Prince of Wales Stage 1) matches at 300m. Clear skies and a soft breeze gave shooters an easy morning with some impressive scores.

We then moved back to 600m to shoot the G. Burge (Prince of Wales Stage 2), Alban Emery and the Al Lockett (Governor General Stage 1) matches. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on your outlook), the winds picked up and the flags started blowing in opposite directions. Competitors lost points left and right (pun intended) and on the last match of the long day there were even a couple crossfires. We finished the day with an impromptu dinner at The Hilltop Bar and Pub.

On Sunday we started early to shoot the final three matches, the third stage of the Prince of Wales at 800m and the last two stages of the Governor General (including the Andy Gunter Match) at 900m. The challenging southwestern winds returned, but, despite the overcast sky, the rain luckily held off.

While everyone else helped tear down the targets, Laura and Conrad worked on the statistics to determine winners of the 9 trophies and prize monies. Kris Feng (PE), Adam MacDonald and Andrew Justason won the long-range aggregate, the Governor General and the Grand Aggregate (TR, FTR, F-Open, respectively). Kris and Adam also won the Prince of Wales, with Terry Carson winning the PoW in F-Open. Braden Colman-Sadd (NS), Gord Holloway and Andrew won the short-range aggregate (TR, FTR, F-Open, respectively).
